TikTok Teams Up with Madonna to Set In-App Live Viewing Record
TikTok's live stream with Madonna for her new album release attracted over 2.16 million concurrent viewers, setting a new record for artist live streams on the platform and sparking discussions about music discovery and the potential of live-stream e-commerce.

TikTok's live content strategy recently received a significant boost with its exclusive event featuring pop singer Madonna, aimed at promoting her latest album. During this live Q&A session, the music superstar attracted over 2.16 million concurrent online viewers, setting a new record for artist livestreams on the platform.

TikTok stated that this live Q&A also garnered over 5.75 million likes and more than 139,000 comments.
As TikTok explained: "TikTok united Madonna fans around the world through a multi-part global event to celebrate the release of her critically acclaimed new album 'Confessions II' (Warner Records). The event included an exclusive TikTok LIVE show, immersive fan experiences, and interactive in-app features, breaking records along the way."
This total viewership is a major win for TikTok. For comparison, in 2024 TikTok streamed a Major League Soccer (MLS) match featuring superstar Lionel Messi. That broadcast was also considered a huge success, but peaked at only 150,000 concurrent viewers.
The popularity of Madonna's livestream highlights both the pop singer's appeal and fan base, as well as TikTok's capabilities in live broadcasting and connecting artists with fans.
Music discovery has become a particularly important area for TikTok, as more users turn to the app to find the latest songs and discover content from their favorite artists.
According to TikTok's '2025 Music Impact Report', 84% of songs on the Billboard Top 200 chart in 2024 first went viral on TikTok. The report also found that TikTok users in the U.S. are 74% more likely than the average short-form video user to discover and share new music on social and short-form video platforms.
This also makes TikTok a focal point for artists and record labels. The data from Madonna's livestream further confirms this and showcases the app's potential in music discovery and connection.
TikTok's collaboration with Madonna also drove significant promotion of the app's brand through offline activities and events related to her new album.
This partnership appears to be a major win for both parties. At the same time, it provides a strong boost to TikTok's livestreaming ambitions, as the app seeks to attract more users to watch real-time broadcast content.
For TikTok, the potential of livestreaming in the commercial space is a major advantage. Many livestreams now offer not only entertainment but also in-stream shopping options. This is a core foundation of TikTok's broader monetization strategy, and the more visibility the app can generate for its live content, the better.
As such, this is a multifaceted win that could also create more opportunities for brands to leverage live commerce.
