When Snapchat's growth in the US and European markets stalled or even contracted, India became a key region where its user base continued to expand. According to the company's official announcement, the app's user base in India is still growing, while local advertising business is also showing steady growth.

Snapchat said in the announcement: "Snapchat today announced strong advertiser growth momentum in the Indian market, with the number of advertisers on the platform growing 10-fold over the past two years, while the number of advertisers that ran ads in all four quarters of the year tripled."

The company noted that the increased adoption of immersive ad formats has brought more business opportunities to the Indian market. At the same time, Snapchat continues to invest in AI-driven targeting and platform feature optimization, which has effectively improved ad performance and in turn attracted more advertiser interest.

Currently, Snapchat has over 250 million monthly active users in India, making India the app's largest regional market. The platform's positioning of emphasizing private connections rather than public sharing has clearly resonated with Indian users.

Snapchat's long-standing challenge is that its revenue from the Indian market is far lower than that from the US and EU markets. This means that India's growth contributes relatively little to its overall profits, serving more as a barometer of future potential.

However, the improvement in Snapchat's advertising business in India has brought new hope for it to become a key revenue market. By providing valuable ways for young users to connect, the platform is gradually increasing its appeal to local advertisers.

In fact, Snapchat noted that although Gen Z pays 34% less attention to ads on traditional social platforms than millennials, Snapchat "consistently delivers strong engagement and measurable business results for brands," with its ad campaigns outperforming other platforms in brand recall and awareness.

This performance may attract more local Indian businesses to use Snapchat as a promotional channel, making the platform more commercially valuable and sustainable.

However, despite the relative success achieved, significant challenges still lie ahead for Snapchat. Because even with notable growth in the Indian market, Snapchat's overall user base is still shrinking. This means the platform needs to focus on expanding ad inventory to maximize its revenue absorption capacity.

Snapchat users seem to respond relatively positively to inbox ads—an ad format that was once a major gamble for the platform. However, there is inevitably a limit to the number of promotions users can tolerate, and once that limit is exceeded, the user experience will be significantly disrupted.

If Snapchat cannot continue to increase ad volume, then seizing market opportunities in developing regions becomes its next best option. From this perspective, growth in the Indian market is of critical importance to its future development.
