TikTok Unveils International Museum Day Programming and Creator Collaborations
TikTok has announced a suite of in-app activations and creator partnerships for International Museum Day (May 18), including a new global LIVE program called 'Museums Come Alive.' The platform also released its 2026 Museum Insights Report, revealing that 56 of the world's top 100 most-visited museums maintain official TikTok accounts.

TikTok has unveiled a series of in-app activations and creator collaborations timed to International Museum Day, observed annually on May 18. The celebration aims to spotlight the global significance of museums and the cultural value they deliver to communities worldwide.
According to TikTok, the International Museum Day events are designed to demonstrate how the platform fosters learning and stimulates interest in museums through its evolving content presentation tools.
In a statement, TikTok noted: “Over the past year, notable museums have turned to TikTok LIVE to engage with audiences in new ways, reigniting interest in history and famous works of art. In March, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted a three-day LIVE series of creator and curator-hosted tours, while the Grand Egyptian Museum streamed its opening ceremony in November, turning a national cultural event into a global moment.”
The company reported that combined viewership across these streams reached nearly five million globally, underscoring how TikTok LIVE can broaden access to cultural institutions and enhance educational storytelling.
To build on this momentum, TikTok is launching a new in-app series called “Museums Come Alive,” hosted by a range of TikTok creators. The initiative is part of a broader global LIVE program that offers users year-round access to live content spanning education, food, travel, and other categories.
“Comes Alive [is] a new global LIVE program that provides TikTok users with year-round access to LIVE content across education, food, travel, and more,” TikTok said. “Programming will kick off on May 18 with Museums Come Alive, a series of official TikTok LIVEs in partnership with museums around the world where viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look into iconic cultural institutions.”
This initiative could serve as an effective vehicle for raising awareness of museums and the educational insights they offer, particularly among younger, digitally native audiences.
In conjunction with the programming, TikTok has published its 2026 Museum Insights Report, which provides detailed data on how users engage with museum-related content on the platform.
The report indicates that 56 of the top 100 most-visited museums worldwide maintain official TikTok accounts, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Louvre Museum, and the Grand Egyptian Museum.
These findings highlight the potential value TikTok offers cultural and educational institutions, aligning with contemporary content consumption habits to drive engagement and interest. International Museum Day provides a timely opportunity to showcase this potential and illustrates how museums can leverage TikTok’s features to reach broader audiences.
