Snapchat Report Reveals New Opportunities in Insurance Marketing: Young Users Become Key Decision-Makers
Snapchat's latest report indicates that its users are mostly proactive insurance decision-makers, with an insurance ownership rate 1.4 times higher than non-users, and 82% are considering switching providers. The platform may become an effective channel for insurance brands to reach young, high-net-worth individuals.

Snapchat recently releaseda new report, providing an in-depth analysis of user behavior patterns in insurance purchase decisions. The study indicates that insurance-related marketers and brands can discover significant opportunities from it.
Linking Snapchat, which primarily targets younger audiences, with insurance promotion may not seem intuitive at first. However, according to data compiled by Ipsos and Snap, "Snapchat users are among the most proactive insurance decision-makers today. They are planners, evaluators, and digital-first consumers who turn to social platforms—especially Snapchat—for guidance and direction at every step."
The survey of 1,513 U.S. social media users found that 4 out of 5 Snapchat users already hold at least one insurance policy, and they are 1.4 times more likely to have insurance than non-Snapchat users.

This data confirms the affluent nature of Snap's audience, and high-income groups have long been the core market for the app.
In fact, as early as 2017,Snap CEO Evan Spiegel was reportedly quoted as sayingthat Snapchat is only for wealthy people, which explains why the app initially focused primarily on specific regions and operating systems. Spiegel denied making such remarks, but combined with this new data point, the claim seems to correlate with its audience demographics.
The report shows that 82% of Snapchat users would consider switching insurance providers, and compared to non-users, Snapchat users are more familiar with policy terms, coverage details, and the overall insurance market landscape.

Snapchat users are more likely to experience major life milestones associated with significant purchases.
The report states: "Millennial and Gen Z Snapchat users lead lives full of change. Whether it's moving, buying a new car, or expanding their family, these consumers are more likely to have recently experienced major life changes. Change brings reevaluation. 77% of users say they have switched or newly purchased an insurance policy due to a life event in the past 6 months, and they are 1.8 times more likely to take action than non-Snapchat users."
The data also shows that Snapchat users seek guidance and advice when making major purchase decisions, including insurance, and use social media as a primary source of information.
"Snapchat users are 2.6 times more likely than non-Snapchat users to develop a positive perception of insurance brands and products after seeing them on social platforms (74% vs. 30%)." the report says.
These findings are insightful, reflecting how pervasive social platforms are in people's lives and how younger users are changing their research and engagement habits in line with technological trends.
Therefore, although Snapchat may not immediately come to mind as a key source for insurance research, the data suggests it has the potential to become an extremely valuable promotional platform for insurance-related brands.
