Against the backdrop of stagnant or even declining growth in the US and European markets, India is becoming a key region where Snapchat's user base continues to expand. According to the company's official statement, the app's user base in India is still growing, while local advertising business is also steadily improving.

Snapchat said in a press release: "Snapchat today announced strong advertiser growth momentum in the Indian market, with the number of advertisers on the platform growing 10 times over the past two years, while the number of advertisers running ads across all four quarters of the year has tripled."

The company noted that the adoption rate of immersive ad formats in India has risen, creating more opportunities for brands. Meanwhile, Snapchat's continued investment in AI-driven targeting and platform features has further enhanced advertising effectiveness, thereby attracting more local advertisers.

Currently, Snapchat has over 250 million monthly active users in India, making India the app's largest regional market. The platform's positioning of emphasizing private connections over public sharing clearly resonates with Indian users' social preferences.

However, Snapchat's long-standing challenge is that its revenue from the Indian market is far lower than that from the US and EU markets. This means that India's growth has limited direct contribution to the company's overall profitability and serves more as a barometer of future potential.

But the improvement in India's advertising business brings new hope: if it can effectively connect with young audiences, Snapchat has the potential to become a significant revenue source in the region and attract more local promoters.

In fact, Snapchat pointed out that Gen Z pays 34% less attention to ads on traditional social platforms than millennials, but Snapchat "continues to deliver strong engagement and measurable business outcomes for brands," with its ad campaigns outperforming other platforms in brand recall and awareness.

This advantage may prompt more Indian businesses to adopt Snapchat as a promotional channel, thereby enhancing the platform's commercial value and sustainability locally.

However, even with the aforementioned relative success, the challenges Snapchat faces remain severe. Because despite significant growth in the Indian market, Snapchat's overall user base is still shrinking, which means the app needs to expand its ad inventory to maximize revenue.

Snapchat users seem to respond relatively positively to inbox ads, even though such ads were once considered a high-risk experiment. However, there is a limit to users' tolerance for ads, and if promotional content becomes excessive, it could severely disrupt the user experience.

If Snapchat cannot continue to increase ad volume, then seizing opportunities in developing regions becomes its best next step. Therefore, growth in the Indian market is crucial to its future development.
