TikTok stated that its International Museum Day-related activities aim to showcase how the platform can spark user interest in museums and promote learning through its ever-evolving content presentation methods.

According to TikTok's official statement: "Over the past year, renowned museums have leveraged TikTok LIVE to engage with audiences in new ways, reigniting public enthusiasm for historical and artistic masterpieces. In March of this year, The Metropolitan Museum of Art launched a three-day LIVE guided tour series co-hosted by creators and curators; meanwhile, the Grand Egyptian Museum in Egypt livestreamed its opening ceremony last November, transforming a domestic cultural event into a global moment."

TikTok stated that these livestreams collectively garnered nearly 5 million global views, demonstrating that TikTok LIVE can effectively expand the reach of cultural institutions and support educational storytelling.

To highlight this value, TikTok will launch an in-app series called "Museums Come Alive," hosted by multiple TikTok creators.

TikTok stated: "'Come Alive' is a new global LIVE program designed to provide TikTok users with round-the-clock livestreamed content spanning education, food, travel, and more. The program will officially launch on May 18 with the 'Museums Come Alive' special, partnering with museums worldwide to present a series of official TikTok LIVE sessions that offer audiences a behind-the-scenes look at these iconic cultural institutions."

This initiative is expected to serve as an effective way to boost museum visibility and strengthen their role in educational sharing.

Additionally, TikTok released its 2026 Museum Insights Report, which includes more detailed data revealing how users interact with museum-related content on the app.

The report notes that among the 100 most-visited museums globally, 56 have established official TikTok accounts, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Louvre Museum, and the Grand Egyptian Museum.

These figures highlight the potential value TikTok offers to cultural and educational institutions—by aligning with modern content consumption habits, it drives greater engagement and interest.

International Museum Day provides a timely showcase opportunity and underscores how museums can leverage TikTok's various features to reach broader audiences.
